Curved Belt Conveyors

curved conveyor belt for industrial material handling

A curved conveyor belt is a conveyor in a curved shape that changes the direction of the transported goods without changing their orientation. The front side of the product remains facing the direction of travel when leaving the belt turn. These belts are designed for stringent environments with continuous or clocked transportation of packages, containers, and packaged goods with changes in direction. They are available in a variety of modular designs ranging from 30º to 90º angles and in a wide range of standard measurements or customer-specific measurements for integration into new or existing systems. At Armtek, we specialise in creating quality material-handling solutions that help businesses simplify their operations. Based on your needs, you can find all types of conveyor belts that allow you to easily optimise or expand your operations.

Curve Belt Conveyor Design

When designing a curved conveyor belt, there are a few aspects to consider providing an efficient and reliable operation. These include:

  • Drive System: Curved conveyors can be friction driven which is why they are suitable for high-load applications but it also causes extra wear. Other curved conveyors may use a positive drive system or a toothed profile driven by a pulley; such conveyors are suitable for high-load applications but extend belt life.
  •  Belt guiding system: When tensioning a curved belt, the belt tension is. Automatically pulls it inward to the inner radius of the conveyor. To counteract the inward forces, a belt guiding system is necessary.
  • Belt speed across the belt width: The speed of a curved belt must be set so that the speed at the centre of the curved belt matches the belt speed of the connecting conveyors. As a result, the linear belt speed of the curved belt at all other places across the width of the curved belt does not match the belt speed of the connecting conveyors.
  •  Transfer points: When designing a curved conveyor, it is also important to plan transfer points according to the products conveyed. Small products require small end pulleys because the transfer gap between the end pulleys and the connecting conveyors cannot be larger than half the length of the product.

Features of Curved conveyor belt

Maximum Flexibility

Our curved conveyors are designed for versatility, maximizing available space and enhancing your setup by creating the most efficient conveyor solution for your footprint. The curved belt conveyor design eliminates extraneous conveyor length and handling time.

Exceptional durability

Our curved conveyor solutions are specifically designed for high-volume, heavy-duty applications. They are extremely durable, reliable, and provide minimal downtime.

Performance-focused engineering

To meet the demands of heavy-duty applications, our curved conveyor solutions are built with offset joints and double seam-secured belt beading, providing guiding profiles that are five times stronger than traditional belt beading.

Quick belt changes

The modular design of our curved belt conveyors allows speedy belt changes in as little as 15 minutes. This makes it easy to change the belt in time instead of spending hours to change it.

Horizontal transport

Curved conveyor belts allow heavy-load goods to be transported in a horizontal direction with a 90° or 180° curve. This fast-tracks operations and enables efficient movement of goods.

Applications of Curved Conveyor Belt

Our curved conveyor belts are widely used in industries like:

  • Logistics
  • Airports
  • E-commerce
  • Distribution centres
  • Parcel port
  • Wine and spirits
  • Manufacturing and packaging
  • Building materials

FAQ
How does a curved conveyor belt work?

Curved conveyor belts are designed to carry materials around curves and corners. They provide direction changes along the whole system, turning at 45°, 90° or 180° angles. Appropriate and suitably shaped components like idle or driven rollers are used to realise curved conveyors, whereas conical and cylindrical-shaped parts are used to adjust the radius of a curve.

Curved conveyor belts are commonly used in industries like logistics, food, type, and building materials. Airports and distribution centres are a popular example.

When designing a curved conveyor belt, there are a few aspects to consider providing an efficient and reliable operation. These include the drive System, Belt guiding system, Belt speed across the belt width, and Transfer points.
